SGMMG South Georgia Medical Managers Group Presents:HIPPA 2.0 How the Omnibus Final Rule Changes the HIPAA Compliance Landscape
August 21, 2013 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. Valdosta Country Club (Cost $10 for Buffet Lunch) The Omnibus Final Rule, published in January 2013, included a lot of changes to the HIPAA requirements we have dealt with over the past 10 years. No enforcement existed, now enforcement is spelled out in the law. Penalties were inconsequential but now they can reach millions of dollars. You can’t just say you are compliant, now you need to be able to prove it. Plus, all your Business Associates are required to follow the same rules and prove it themselves. The grace period for compliance with the rules ends Sept 23, 2013. With this compliance deadline quickly approaching, providers need to take steps to ensure that they will be in full compliance by the deadline. Medical practices may have more work to do than they realize. This presentation provides an overview of the changes and important considerations for all Covered Entities and Business Associates no matter their size or compliance status.
